We had such a lovely stay at celebrating our anniversary. The house and the grounds were beautiful, the room was large, with a fireplace. The hosts sent us an email before we got there on how to check in, the room was clean and ready for us right as we got there. They served breakfast everyone morning in the adjacent house at a communal table with the other guests, which turned out to be really fun, all the other couples staying there were super social and made breakfast enjoyable. The B&B is in a perfect spot for wineries, hikes, good resturants and Beacon is also close by. All in all would stay there again and would recommend

I wanted a romantic retreat not too far from home and the kids and something that didn't kill the budget. This did just that! The rooms are lovely, everything was immaculate and it was so close to so many different activities. John and Dena were amazing hosts, very personable and thought of tiny touches to make the entire trip more enjoyable. I would definitely book a return trip!

Fantastic rooms if only the staff were as equally fantastic. On their website they state “we treat each and every guest that comes through the door of the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast like family.” That unfortunately was not the case, I personally was treated like an interloping trespasser by the woman owner of the inn who was anything but warm and welcoming. I was questioned not once but twice if I was staying on the property by the owner as well. One would think the owner and operator would know how many guests are on their property….Furthermore, during breakfast some of us were treated more like a burden than actual guests. Also during breakfast the woman who I believe is the chef as well as co-owner, attempt at sarcasm was just mean and flippant. This morning she was hovering while we were eating and even stated “I know, I’m being annoying, I’m about to be even more annoying in 30 minutes.” If you know and acknowledge that you are being a bother why would you continue with the bothersome behavior? Lastly, my father asked for a group photo and the woman whom I believe is the chef immediately says ‘No’ in a weak attempt at sarcasm that came off as mean, rude and was completely unnecessary. My cousins who were staying in the main house, their AC did not work and their shower wasn’t draining. To which they were able to use the shower in a different room. The tub in my uncle’s room also didn’t drain. For this price point the value was not there at all which is a shame given that the rooms are beautiful and cozy. Perhaps management needs to consider having a professional property management company step in.

The staff was very kind, accommodating and helpful. The property itself needs work. Our room had crown molding falling off the ceiling, very musty, and was generally in need of an update. The grounds were overgrown, trees not trimmed, weeds all over, lawn furniture dusty/wet. A path was actually impassable from overgrowth. Too bad because with some TLC this could be really cute.

In looking for a last minute weekend getaway, I stumbled upon the Caldwell House Bed and Breakfast- and what a find it was. The historic house is inviting, and located near wonderful hiking trails (Bear Mountain, 20 minutes away) and art walks (Storm King Art Center, just down the road). Our room (Catherine) was cozy and quiet, despite the inn being located on a local road with through traffic. I do not think the photos on the website truly capture how warm and inviting this space is, imagine a renovated historic farmhouse with wide plank floors and a deep soaker tub- BYOB-bring your own bubbles. The inn keeper, Deena and staff were quick to respond when we needed extra towels. Deena's breakfasts are not to be missed. She sent us away with muffins for our afternoon travels. I truly appreciate her accommodating our food allergies. Save room for dessert- a fantastic ice cream stand is just down the road. Weir's Ice Cream. We recommend the thick shakes. We hope to return in the fall to see the inn surrounded by color and have the apple cider donuts Deena recommended nearby.

I had a wonderful stay at the Caldwell House Bed & Breakfast during a solo, art-filled long weekend. It was the perfect home base for exploring the incredible art destinations in the area. Being just minutes from Storm King Art Center made it easy to spend time wandering the sculpture landscape, and I also visited Dia Beacon and Chapel of Sacred Mirrors before ending the weekend with an unforgettable Kim Gordon concert at Storm King. The Caldwell House itself is beautiful, full of historic charm and tasteful antique touches. I especially appreciated the self-serve coffee bar, which was a perfect way to start each morning. The peaceful outdoor spaces were just as inviting and made it easy to relax after a day of exploring. If you’re planning an arts-focused getaway—or simply looking for a quiet, welcoming place to unwind—I highly recommend the Caldwell House. It was the perfect retreat and made my solo weekend even more memorable.
