The Cowden family and their team at Fort Lewis continue to set the standard for hospitality, food, accommodations and services. The River House, overlooking the Cowpasture River, is marvelous. Craft beer and nicely curated wines at Bucks Bar and dinners at The Mill are wonderful. There is so much to do. Between the farm, river, sauna and nearby Warm Springs and Hot Springs, you can go days and never do the same thing twice.
And now, as if there wasn't enough to do at Fort Lewis, it is a short scenic drive to Hayfields State Park. A beautifully preserved farm with open meadows and quiet shaded trails. A great place to work off the delicious breakfast or build an appetite for the always excellent dinners.
I recommend Ft. Lewis to everyone and anyone who asks about mountain getaways.

Fort Lewis Lodge is a remarkable, family-run inn, set in a beautiful valley. Exceptional family-style breakfast and dinner bookend your days there, and you move at your own pace in between. They provide plenty of opportunities to relax or seek adventure for all ages and for both families and couples. Many memories compete for the lasting image of our five-day stay, but the field full of fireflies every night at dusk might win out.

FLL is such a gem. My wife and I went last 4th of July with our 7 month old son and had a fantastic experience. The amenities and property were top notch but the included meals (breakfast and dinner) were the real highlight. Everything was freshly made with many of the ingredients sourced from the farm itself.
We are very excited to return this summer with extended family!

Our stay at Fort Lewis Lodge was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The hospitality was incredibly warm and welcoming — the kind of place where you immediately feel relaxed and at home. Every staff member we encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely happy to make our stay special. The breakfasts and dinners were truly delicious, with fresh, thoughtfully prepared meals that made each day feel like a treat. We especially loved gathering for the cozy happy hour at Bucks, which added such a fun and inviting touch to the evenings.
The setting itself is simply beautiful. The landscape surrounding the lodge is peaceful and scenic, with wonderful hiking trails and breathtaking views in every direction. One of our favorite parts was spending time near the lovely Cowpasture River, which added so much charm and tranquility to the experience. If you are looking for a relaxing getaway with outstanding hospitality, excellent food, and beautiful natural surroundings, Fort Lewis Lodge is a true gem.

Everything about our stay this past week was perfect. Clean room, excellent food, gorgeous scenery, courteous staff. We will be back for sure. I had no luck fishing but that was probably user error on my part. We also really enjoyed the hiking trails and had them to ourselves on Wednesday. I highly recommend staying here if you're looking to actually take a vacation and relax.
