I also have never done a 1 star review, but let this be a warning about hotel cancellation policy. I booked 2 nights this week in Little Gull Island....beautiful room, however, when I woke up the morning of check in my cat was very sick. Took him to Pet ER and called to cancel. I fully expected to be charged, but it was OK. I believe they were able to quickly rent the room so I asked, if they did rent it, would I get a refund. The answer was no as it is not their cancelation policy. That is ridiculous...if you cancel within 10 days, you lose your money but if you can resell the room for those nights, you should get a refund. I am glad I canceled because my cat was more important but that is a really stupid policy. Sorry but true.

I do a lot of reviews but this is my first 1 star review. I'm taking the time to do this on my vacation in the hope that the company might consider their practices and be more flexible for future customers. My husband booked a room here for 1 night on our coastal drive from Maine to NYC. We were supposed to be staying there on July 1st and we booked the room late evening on June 1st (we got the booking confirmation at 758pm pacific time, so that was 1058pm Eastern time). In preparing for our stay in a few days, my husband checked the confirmation and noticed that the email had our arrival date as June 1st (the day we booked) instead of July 1st, the day we'd be in town. We travel a ton, and I usually verify all of this information to check for errors, but my husband didn't forward me the confirmation because he planned to surprise me with a strawberry special when we got into the room. We called today and acknowledged our error in catching this mistake and asked if there was anything they could do for us (that special room is now not available anymore but we were hoping to at least be able to get a room). We have learned from past experiences that hotel websites often default back to the current day and you have to be hypervigilant to be sure your dates are right when booking. In this case, because of the dates being so similar, and because my husband wanting to surprise me, we missed it. We spent $438.57 and never got to even see the property. The girl on the phone was nice, and spoke to management and called us back to tell us they couldn't do anything for us because of their cancelation policy. They absolutely can do something for us, they have chosen not to. I'm writing this review in the hope that the company will read it and care. A small gesture would have made all the difference. They have rooms available for July 1st and told us they'd be happy to book us another room. No discount, no refund for the strawberry package we never even saw, and certainly no comping us a lesser room to make up for it. Any of those things were options that they chose not to consider.
It may be a very lovely hotel, but they will not be getting my business with this type of business practice.

New Update 6-10-2026. Did the Inn change ownership? Rooms are very clean and comfortable. My bed however was so high I needed a helicopter to get in it. I finally had to use a foot stool to get in it. Bed was super comfortable once I reached the "summit". Lol. Suggest having a foot stool available in closet for those of us who are vertically challenged. Also, they no longer offer water, sodas or wine in the evenings. You now can pay $4 for a small bottle of Fiji water. They do now offer room service for breakfast. Still a beautiful place to stay!
Update: The Inn at Harbor Hill Marina deserves 10 stars...5 isn't enough. I've been coming to the Inn now for several years. Every single year, my experience is the same. OUTSTANDING! The Inn staff deliver a consistent experience every time and I can't imagine staying anywhere else. Staying at the Inn is like coming home! The rooms are always clean, the staff always warm, welcoming and helpful. The Inn is beautiful, the grounds are stunning but the Inn keepers and staff are the ones who add their personal touch to make it such a special experience. Oh...and Niantic is a fabulous town...having grown up in the area, Niantic is still the best, friendly small town in Connecticut!
This was my third stay at the Inn and it definitely feels like my second home. Sue, Dave and the staff are so warm and welcoming! The rooms are so clean and comfortable. You can't beat the views either! All four seasons have gorgeous views... the breakfasts are out of this world! I had a friend meeting me to go out to breakfast on the last day of my stay but the aroma of breakfast cooking was so hard to resist! Lovely place and wonderful staff!
