Beautiful setting, but a disappointing stay We almost never leave hotel reviews, but after our stay at Ledges, I felt like I would have appreciated reading a review like this before booking. We drove about 5.5 hours for our 10th anniversary and chose Ledges because it seemed like a unique, affordable getaway while we’re building a house. We weren’t expecting luxury or special treatment, just a clean, comfortable, well-maintained hotel. The property has so much potential. The historic buildings and waterfall setting are genuinely cool, and the whole area has a unique feel when you first arrive. About 10 minutes before check-in, we received a call saying there had been an emergency and no one would be at the hotel to check us in. We were told our key would be left at the front desk and that we could call their sister hotel if needed. We were understanding, but after a 5.5-hour drive, arriving to a completely unattended hotel was unsettling. The lobby looks nice, but the hotel had a very strong musty smell throughout the common areas. Our room itself smelled fine, but cleanliness was a major issue. We had dirt/debris on the floor, black hair on the bathroom floor and in the shower, and a sticky bathroom floor. I actually asked my husband to check the bed, which I have never done at a hotel. Most of it looked fine, but there were small spots on his side that appeared to be blood. We can’t say for certain what they were, but with no one there to address it, we ended up sleeping on top of the bedding. The next morning, we told the front desk about the cleanliness and bedding issues. She was extremely friendly and helpful, as were all of the staff we personally interacted with. The problem was not the staff’s attitude, but the condition and upkeep of the property. We also had some communication issues with the waterfall package. It included a $150 dinner credit, but the waitress at Glass wasn’t aware of it, so we initially paid with our debit card. The front desk resolved it the next morning and explained the other vouchers, but this could have been communicated much better. The dinner itself was also disappointing. The outdoor setting and live guitar were nice, and the restaurant staff were friendly, but service was extremely slow despite the restaurant not appearing busy. We waited about 20 minutes just for water, and the food and drinks were underwhelming. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of our least enjoyable anniversary dinners. We spent most of Friday out exploring, and when we returned, our room was cleaner than it had been when we arrived, which we appreciated. The waterfall is definitely the property’s biggest draw, but even that area felt like it needed some TLC. The falls are pretty, but the surrounding area was quite overgrown. Combined with the musty smell and cleanliness issues inside, the property felt like it was missing some basic upkeep. We plan a new trip every anniversary and often choose the destination around the hotel. Each year, we try to find somewhere that outdoes the previous year’s stay. Unfortunately, Ledges didn’t come close. We left feeling like we couldn’t wait to leave, which is not how you want to feel after an anniversary trip.
