We stayed 2 nights in the River House and were so impressed with the quiet beauty, the away-camp all-inclusive 'luxury' vibe and the gracious and knowledgable staff.
Now, I'm not gonna lie, the humidity, mosquitos and yellow flies were a challenge. LSSI isn't for wussies. But they have well-stocked bug repellent stations everywhere you turn and netted clothing to use during your stay (if needed) that make it all well worth it. We got to explore so many diverse habitats by ourselves with the provided bikes and also with the Naturalists led outings on the back of their safari-like trucks and on the big skiff boats. As a birding enthusiast, I was stoked to see Painted Buntings galore, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Roseate Spoonbills, White Ibis, Mottled Ducks, Black-necked Stilts, Least Bitterns and
Chuck-wills's-widows. Even got to talk to and watch one of their student naturalists catch, ban, measure and release Painted Buntings as part of their research. Between all that and having the pool and beaches to ourselves, we couldn't have asked for a better experience.
Plus the meals were all amazing and the staff were ALL so accommodating. No notes.
No TVs or screens to distract you from being in the present moment and enjoying the natural splendor the island has to offer.

My husband and I visited Little Saint Simon Lodge in late January 2026. We had a GREAT visit! The naturalists were super engaging; we participated in two outings a day with them. Special hats off to Eva and Adam! We learned about the island, wildlife and plants. My husband, a passionate lover of nature, was very impressed with the naturalist's knowledge. We loved the Slash Pine groves, Live Oak mottes, and Spanish moss. We loved riding the single gear bikes all over the island, walking to the beach, kayaking and my husband fished. The guest count was on the lower side since our visit was in the shoulder season. All guests were happy, having a good time, and super appreciative that lodges like this exist - where nature is seen at it's best. Finally, we loved the meals, family style. Great food, great staff - will come again!!
