The Mermaid & The Alligator

I stayed here in March 2006 and have been wanting to go back ever since. The rooms were the nicest and most comfortable accommodations I have ever stayed in. The pool area is private and an oasis. The breakfast was wonderful (I am a picky eater). The location was close to everything, but the lodging was quiet. I do not believe a nicer place in Key West exists. I really hope I get to return one day.

Staff nice, accommodating for the most part. If you are looking for a "resort", this is not self contained. We wanted to come back and chill, but your forced to your room. There is no room to do that unless you have a larger cottage. Once again. Lesson learned. Maybe if you travel solo.

My husband and I just returned from a wonderful four-night stay at the charming Mermaid & Alligator. We first stayed here 15 years ago and have always remembered it with great fondness. In fact, for the past 15 years, it has been the standard by which we compare every other B&B—and none have surpassed it in romantic charm and comfort. Before returning this year, we tried to temper our expectations, wondering if time had changed things or if we had simply been viewing our memories through a romantic lens from the early days of our relationship. We were absolutely delighted to discover that the Mermaid & Alligator is just as magical as we remembered. We stayed in the Royal Poinciana room, which features a lovely balcony with two chaise loungers, as well as a small table and chairs. Although June temperatures were quite warm, we still enjoyed relaxing on the balcony a few times. The room itself was beautiful, full of character and thoughtful touches. After walking around Key West in the heat, it was especially refreshing to return to our cool, comfortable room (we loved the chilly setting, though the thermostat is easily adjustable). Every space in the house is thoughtfully curated, creating an atmosphere of serene elegance. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and always helpful. The manager recommended an outstanding snorkel tour with Honest Eco, and we were so grateful—otherwise, we might have chosen one of the larger, less personal companies that advertise throughout Key West. Thank you to the Mermaid & Alligator for giving us a second stay filled with such special memories. We truly hope to return again.

This is our 4th time staying here. Gets better each time! Great staff, especially Anna. We love this place. We travel all over the world and this is always one of the highlights of our annual travels

This is, quite simply, the best bed and breakfast ever. The house is warm and inviting, the staff are excellent and very responsive and the setting is magical. We received expert recommendations from the staff on where to eat, what museums and shops to go to, and the best snorkeling tour that we have ever had.

Stayed here many times, love the ambience and the gardens area. Appreciate the staff's attentiveness. Great location!
