Hiking to Mount Monadnock This Fall
Mount Monadnock, the centerpiece of Mount Monadnock State Park, is the most prominent peak in southern New Hampshire. It stands at a towering 3, 165 feet. This peak is so famous that it's been written about by Henry David Thoreau, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Mark Twain, and others, all of whom framed it as a symbol of spiritual and environmental awareness. You can see this gorgeous peak from just about anywhere in the state - no wonder it's such a popular hiking spot!
As great as hiking Mount Monadnock is during the summer, it's even more impressive in the fall. Fall Foliage in New Hampshire is nothing short of spectacular, and hiking is without a doubt one of the best ways to witness this vibrant blanket of color.
There are more than 40 miles of hiking trails in Mount Monadnock State Park. Not all of them lead to the rocky summit, but many of them do. When you do get to the top of Mount Monadnock, you can expect to see breathtaking views which, on a clear day, stretch to all six New England states.

- Though it's not technically in New Hampshire, Brattleboro Vermont isn't too far away from Mount Monadnock and is a wonderfully charming town to visit.
- Visit New Hampshire's famed covered bridges. The backdrop of fall foliage makes these historic structures even more beautiful and photo-worthy.
